Full Moon Party - Koh Phangan
The full moon party upon Koh Phangan is a very special event. There are few places in this world where you can live out your desert island dreams of palm trees and white sand beaches and still have a blinding night out at a rocking party every month, Koh Phangan is one of them. The town of Had Rin is a vibrant mix of friendly Southern Thai hospitality and the island's unique party culture, creating a place and vibe that could only be found at the origin of this world famous party.
The Full Moon Party is held at Haad Rin Nok, so the many restaurants, pubs and bars in Haad Rin are decorated to attract tourists. At the party, top-name DJs provide many genre of music, like Hip Hop, Dance, R&B, Reggae and lots more. In addition, any number of other performers may join the Party throughout the evening; fire blowers and dancers, face painters and impromptu firework displays among them.
In high season, there are over ten thousand people joining this party, but there are rooms to accommodate them scattered all over Koh Phangan, if you want to stay in Haad Rin you should book a room at least one week before the party. It is possible to stay on Koh Samui and get the ferry over for the party and back again early the next morning.
Police are cracking down on the drug scene at full moon parties, undercover police attend the party to try to catch people dealing or taking drugs. Large fines are the consequence faced by anyone caught. This is a significant change from the early days of the Full Moon Party when drug taking was actively encouraged upon Koh Phangan.
With the global notoriety that the Full moon party has gained as being one of the biggest and best beach bashes in the world, Koh Phangan gets more than its fair share of hedonists gracing its shores. Few know that the first Full Moon Party actually started as a going away bash for a friend of the owner of Paradise Bungalows on Haad Rin beach, which just happened to be at full moon. Each year the scene on Koh Phangan grows with the ever-increasing number of party faithful that return, bringing their friends and spreading the vibe.

FULL MOON PARTY THAILAND: KOH PHANGAN BEACH PARTY
Haad Rin is home to the Full Moon Party and home to about 3-5000 rather mad people; It is the metropolitan area and the island's largest concentration of Phangan Island Beach Club and put in the maximum travel is another. Has over 12 major sound systems running the long beach slow food for 8000 to 12,000 players in the low season from 15,000 to 20,000 to 30,000 in peak season in the new year. Within this temporary colony of pets through DJ through some very talented, bang. remove their glowing moon, a land survey in person. Planet.

How to Travel Responsibly
How to Travel Responsibly
Author: Peter Siljerud"Travelers never think that they are the foreigners."
- Mason Cooley
Attitude
When you travel y ou are a guest in the country you visit. Many great travelers realize this and behave accordingly. Unfortunately there are also people who believe that they can behave any way they want to just because they are not at home. It is very depressing to see these people disrespecting local customs, throwing garbage everywhere and loudly complaining that the food is not like back home. You need to be aware of what is acceptable and what unacceptable behavior in different countries. This article tries to give a few pointers for responsible travel. Check your guidebook for specific information for your destination.
If you want everything to be like home - stay at home. If you get really upset that you have to wait a bit until you get your food or that the third world hotel is out of orange juice for breakfast maybe you should reconsider if you really want to travel to a third world country. There are plenty of great places which are similar to your home country where you may find yourself more comfortable.
Drugs
When you travel in some parts of the world there will be plenty of opportunities to easily get hold of drugs. If you chose to do drugs and take the consequences it has on your body that is one thing. You should be aware however that you support the drug trade which many times are run by ruthless criminals mistreating the local population. You also set an example for young people who want to be just like the cool westerners, what was a one time experience for you may turn into a (short) life time of drug addiction for them.
If the moral issues do not appeal to you then maybe the idea of spending 15 years sharing jail cell with a smelly fat guy nicknamed "The Pig"and being traded around for a pack of cigarettes will. There are plenty of foreigners in prisons abroad. Your embassy can not get you out just because you are a foreigner. The cool guy who sold you the drugs may have a friend in the police who he calls to collect a reward or to get a cut of the bribe you have to pay to get out (if you are lucky).
If you can not do the time, do not do the crime.
Personal Experience - Full Moon Prison
I had been on Koh Pha Ngan in Thailand for a few days of sunbathing and partying during one of the infamous Full Moon Parties. On my way back from the island I sat next to a British guy who had just seen one of his countrymen being arrested the day before. The guy had bought three ecstasy pills for him and his friends to use and was now locked away in a Thai prison waiting for the embassy to open three days later.
Not the best day of his life.
Communicating
If people do not understand the language you speak:
SHOUTING WILL NOT HELP
Gestures mean different things. In some places people show that they want to hitchhike by making a fist with the thumbs up or to indicate "OK", do that to an Australian and you will be in big trouble.
The sign for OK (making a circle with your thumb and index finger) is also very inappropriate in some countries. If you are a gesturing kind of person be aware of this and find out if your favorite gesture is acceptable.
If you communicate with someone who has limited language knowledge simplify your vocabulary e.g. "Have room?"instead of " Do you have any accommodations available?"
Dress code
Be sensitive to what is an appropriate dress code. Tourist areas and major cities are usually more relaxed and not so strict whereas the countryside may be more conservative.
Appropriate dress code also applies to the beach. In some parts of the world sunbathing topless or completely naked may be okey but in other it is completely inappropriate.
When you enter a place of worship make sure that you are adequately dressed, this may mean that you need to cover your shoulders and hair, remove your shoes or wear long pants/skirts which cover your knees. In some places it may be inappropriate to wear leather. Entrance may be denied to women if they are on their period.
Endangered species
Do not purchase endangered animals, plants or coral reefs. As long as there is a market there will be people who violate these laws. Do not injure nature unnecessarily e.g. by standing on coral while snorkeling or diving.
Litter
It can be depressing to see the amount of litter people throw away on the street and in the woods. Some people seem to think that just because there already is litter it will not make any difference to throw some more. Well it does. If you can not find any garbage can to throw your litter in then pack the litter in your backpack and throw it away when you get to a place which has one. Follow the old saying:
"Take nothing but photographs, leave nothing but footprints"
And follow my own first law of responsible travel:
"Do not break anything but hearts";)
If you smoke do not leave your cigarette butts on the ground, it is just as bad as throwing paper. If you are too lazy to throw them away in a suitable place at least make sure that they are extinguished before you throw them in the forest and start a fire.
If there are refill services of water bottles use them. Not only is this cheaper but it helps to get rid of some of the plastic litter which seems to be everywhere these days.
Climate change
Travelling by air releases quite a bit of pollution in the atmosphere. If you feel that you want to offset your environmental impact check out Climate Care where you can calculate your impact on the environment and offset your environmental impact by donating to various projects.
Bribes
We do not encourage paying bribes and fueling corruption. There are times however where a few dollars can save you a lot of time or effort. How come that guy got a table even though the restaurant was full? Why did that taxi cut through the line at the customs check?

Why Thailand is So Popular
When planning a backpacking trip to Thailand, you may have heard of what attracts tourists to the various areas about the country. In the North, trekking through the mountains is quite popular. More than 300 temples can be located in the beautiful natural surroundings of Chiang Mai. Top-notch quality and inexpensive stays can be found at every corner, offering flavorful food and interesting shopping outlets.
As a backpacker, you will find an abundance of places to stay at in the area, including Julie's Guesthouse. At this establishment, you will be able to sign up for a couple of days trekking through the jungle that features lovely views and a first-hand look at how the locals thrive. To avoid getting hit by the monsoon rains, plan an adventure for this area between the months of October and April.
Central Thailand brings the allure of Bangkok, which overflows with shopping, addicting cuisine, palaces and temples. The Chao Phraya River provides a great scene to explore. Main attractions to consider include the Royal Palace, the Wats and Chinatown, as well as the Chatuchak Weekend Market. Notable festivals can be experienced in Ayuthaya, where scenic riverside gardens await in Sukhothai. The endless possibilities for exploration are mind-boggling. The islands of Southern Thailand bring you closer to white sands and warm waters. The largest of the bunch is called Phuket, where other notable selections include the Phi Phi Islands and the waterfalls of Krabi.
Nightlife
Many tourists enjoy the overall aspect of Thailand nightlife. This is one of the main reasons a large amount of travelers backpack throughout the country: nature, culture, food and fun. If it's a good time you're looking for, try the many go-go and beer bars in Pattaya, as well as Chaweng Beach (Ko Samui) that parties into the wee hours of the night. Koh Phangan is the site where thousands of locals and tourists gather to celebrate by the light of the full moon. It's a world famous beach party that never seems to end, offered once every month. It is one of the best places to experience the food, drink and dance of Thailand island life in an event that literally rocks the senses.
The law of the land states that bars and nightclubs close at 2 in the morning when visiting Bangkok, but there is always somewhere to go, whether it's just a delicious restaurant tucked away on a side street. The largest area to explore is called Patpong, which provides three streets to explore. Full Moon Beach Party, Koh Samui
Full Moon Beach Party, Koh Samui
Author: IrinaparkerThe Full Moon Party is one of the most famous and visited beach parties in the world. It is held monthly at Haad Rin Beach in Southern Phangan. The Full Moon party started in the late 80's with its popularity increasing steadily in the 90's. A guitar, tape recorder and a beach fire under a full moon was the perfect setting for an intimate party arranged by friends.
Today, the full moon party has gained worldwide popularity for being one of the biggest and most entertaining parties of the world. Usually, every moth around 10,000-20,000 people participate in the Koh Phangan beach party. International and Thai DJ's churn out the best foot tapping music to make the crowd go wild. Ultra Violet or UV colours that glow in the dark are painted on your body to give that electrifying effect. The DJ's cover a wide genre of music such as techno, trance, goa, drum n' bass, dub, reggae, "commercial hits", house etc. These are played on about 15 sound systems along Haad Rin beach. There are also many small tables on the beach where you can sit down with your friends or meet new ones from all parts of the globe. You can order drinks and food from the restaurants and the bars next to the Had Rin Nok beach.
Quench you thirst with a "Thai whiskey set" with local spirits like Meakong or Sang Som. If you prefer beer, try a cold Thai beer such as Singha, Beer Chang, Kloster etc. There are often other beer brands such as Heineken, Tiger, Corona etc. available on many of the bars and restaurants and of course a number of non-alcoholic alternatives like fruit juices, fruit shakes and soft drinks. If you’re not into drinking check out all the delicious food laid out especially for you. The party provides delicious Thai food to all those dancers who worked up a ferocious appetite with all that dancing. Choose from a wide array of food ranging from the local delicacies to international favourites such as pasta, pizza, burgers, salads, soups etc. Prices are often very reasonable.
Dates for the party might change if it clashes with a Buddhist holiday at full moon. To avoid disappointment do check with the hotel staff and local tourist information guides to get the exact date of the party. Book in advance to avoid last minute rush.
If you are planning to visit the party from Koh Samui, take one of the boats leaving several times daily from Big Buddha Pier (Bang Rak) and Maenam. Just book your ferry ticket in any travel agency on the island, or directly on the pier. You can also go by a speed-boat from the Bo Phut or Maenam piers on the North of Koh Samui. If you’re travelling from Bangkok you can either take a bus, train or flight from Suratthani. There are also several ferry lines going between Suratthani, Koh Samui and Koh Phangan daily. Catamarans are also available. Buy your ticket in any travel agency in Bangkok or on these islands.
Try to book a bungalow or room in advance. You can also book your hotel from Koh Samui. There are a lot of people staying overnight so it can be really difficult to get a bungalow in the early morning. To find a bungalow, you can browse for safe Koh Phangan accommodation booking from our travel website.

Tropical Islands for Parties
Tropical Islands for Parties
Author: Matthew KepnesEveryone likes a good party. If you are a young traveler or just someone keen on having a fun time while enjoying the tropics, then finding the perfect party island should be your priority. There are a lot of tropical destinations in the world and all of them are beautiful, however, not all of them offer the party climate you may want.
One of the best places to discover wild party islands is in Greece. Visitors flock to the country for its serene weather, stunning beaches, warm waters, and crazy nightlife. The two main destinations are Ios and Corfu. Corfu is located on the west coast of Greece. There are regular late night parties outside of the famed Atlantis nightclub and party goers all seem to stay at the notorious Pink Palace. During the day people soak up the beautiful Mediterranean sun and then party all night long.
Ios see a lot of tourists who want to do one thing: party. Ios is not only a party island but it is also beautiful and filled with culture (Homer was from here!). The island has a lot of tropical beaches with crystal clear blue water. At night, everyone comes out for some great seafood and Greek dining before spending the evening doing body shots of each other and waking up on the beach. Most party goers end up staying out until sun rise and sleep it off while getting a tan during the day. This is an island for the night owl.
For those looking to get out of the Mediterranean, you can head over to Southeast Asia and the islands of Bali and Ko Phangan. Bali is one of the most popular destinations in the world. Located in Indonesia, this huge island has a bit of everything. And those looking for a party will find it on Kuta beach. Besides great surfing, this spot is known for its beach parties and excessive nightlife. Here the tourists get loud, get down, and get crazy. It’s a cheap destination making it really popular among backpackers, Aussies, and Kiwis. After you burnt yourself out at night, treat yourself to a nice massage during the day.
Bali might be famous worldwide but Ko Phangan is the world’s premiere party destination. This island is well known to all travelers. It hosts the famous Full Moon Party every month, when 20,000 or more people descend on Haat Rin beach to consume large quantities of alcohol and dance until dawn. All the partying happens on Haat Rin beach and every night, the beach fills up with crowds of revelers looking to just have a good time. There is always an excuse to party, whether it is a Full Moon, Half Moon, or Black Moon party. After a few of the islands famous alcohol buckets, you won’t care what party you are at.
In the South Pacific, Fiji is well known to be a center of parties and activities. The most famous island group there is the Yasawa and that sees a lot of young backpackers who only have fun and sun on their mind. Here cheap bungalows, nightly BBQs, and cheap alcohol as well as beautiful beaches and great diving. It also helps that Fiji is a major stop on all RTW airline tickets.
No matter where want to go to in the world, there is a location just for you. You’ll find what you are looking for and will be getting down with sun soaked travelers from around the world in no time.

Enjoying The Thailand Full Moon Party
On the Koh Phangan's Haad Rin beach, once a month when the moon rises with all its beauty, crowds gather to view a most enthralling view of the moon. Almost 10,000 people gather on the beach at various venues that host the party like the Backyard Club, Beach House Club, Drop Inn, Cactus Bar, Paradise, Orchid and The Rock to name a few.
The party starts at dusk and the tables are laid out along the beach, lamps are lit and soon enough the moon light takes over and creates the perfect setting for a night out with singing and dancing. There is food and drinks to keep the partiers going through the night. With the perfect warm waters through out the year, the party becomes even more special with many taking a plunge and enjoying the party from the water as well. Anyone and everyone is welcome to join the party as there is no entry fee to the beach and you can enjoy the atmosphere till your hearts content. The only thing you pay for is the food and drinks you enjoy during the night.
You can surely plan your next vacation to Thailand and enjoy this special party as well as the dates for the event are already set, once a month from January to December and also on Christmas Day and New Years Eve.
A few things to keep in mind always, when you are planning to go to a crowded place are to make sure you leave any valuables, or travel documents, back at your hotel.Keep your wallet and money in front pockets or in places where you will know if someone tries to relieve you of them. You can always find pick pockets at crowded places, be careful and alert to them. Keep your shoes on as there is always a chance of stepping on some broken glass.
Be weary of accepting any drinks from strangers. Party drugs are not uncommon here and the drug related penalties are far more stringent than many other places and often times the consulates can't provide much help in such matters.
All in all, stay safe and enjoy a great beach party that you will get a chance to be a part of.

Koh Phangan Full Moon Parties Bigger Than Ever
Besides Bangkok bar girls, the full moon party is probably the number one reason for Thailand’s reputation as the land of pleasure and sin. Call it Eden or call it the Asian Las Vegas, it’s somewhere in between. The image of a western tourist in a Bangkok bar, surrounded by beautiful Thai girls is pretty magnetic. It’s brought more than a few lonely men and women across the high seas.
Koh Phangan parties are now played by some of the world’s biggest DJs who are more than happy relax in free accommodation on this paradise island for a few nights and play to the immense crowd. The tunes generally hover around House, Transe, Jungle and more recently Dub and Dubstep. The vibe is always high, high energy and the crowd is enormous and notoriously easy to please.
Its hard to really grasp the magnitude of one of these parties without actually experiencing it. Unfortunately, as with Bangkok bar girls, the few fun details to spread are what everyone hears. What’s missed in the rumors that spread around the world about the full moon party is the wholesome side, the fact that this is thousands of people together on a beach, under a moon dancing and sharing joy.
What’s truly unbelievable about Koh Phangan parties is the backdrop. The tropical Pacific around Thailand’s islands is the very epitome of beachside paradise. That is what makes this a truly transcendent experience

Full Moon Party Schedule for 2009
Full Moon Party Schedule for 2009
Author: Matthew CoeThe Full moon party on Koh Pangan, Thailand is now a right of passage for any backpacker who comes to South East Asia.
Started many years ago with just a small group of people who decided that on every full moon they would meet and have a party on the beach of Haad Rin. Now as many as over 10,000 people turn up each and every month to party till sunrise.
From early evening people start making their way down to the beach to relax on the sand having a beer or an early bucket watching all the fire shows.
At about midnight the party starts to get wild. The beach will be at its busiest and each bar will be playing its music loud enough to drown the noise of their neighbours. Music ranges from pop classic, hard house and Drum n Bass.
If you are deciding to go to Thailand this year then you will need to know some facts.
· Turn up a few days early to find accommodation in Haad Rin
· If you do not think you can handle the noise of all night parties every night then stay out of town. There are many taxis and boats to get you about whatever the time.
· If you want to leave the island the day after the party book your boat in advance as they fill up quickly.
Also you will need to know of the schedules for the Full Moon Parties.

Full Moon Party on Koh Phangan - How to Get There
Full Moon Party on Koh Phangan - How to Get There
Author: Jeremiah IversonFirst, let's break it up into a few stages.
Stage One -- Getting To Koh Samui
To get to Koh Samui the easiest and most expensive way would be to fly from Bangkok. The only airlines that fly from Bangkok to Koh Samui are Bangkok Airways and Thai Airways. Bangkok Airways is usually the cheaper option while Thai Airways is the flagship airline of Thailand.
The way many get there is by taking a train or bus down to Surat Thani and then taking the ferry across. I'd recommend trying to get a bus that has it's destination as Koh Samui from the new Southern Bus Terminal (if you're at the Southern Bus Terminal right near a big mall and there is no air conditioning, that's not it, that's the old one). To get to the new Southern Bus Terminal in Bangkok the best advice I can give you is to Google the address Phutthamonthon Soi 1 in northern Thonburi which is on the other side of the river opposite Bangkok. Technically it is in Thonburi but it's part of the extended Bangkok metro area. So, if you get a bus directly to Koh Samui you do not have to worry about how to get to the Koh Samui ferry and get across to the island.
If you do not get a direct bus ticket to Koh Samui try to get a bus-boat or train-bus-boat ticket from a travel agent directly to the island. You will wait for possibly long periods waiting to get a short bus to the ferry once you arrive in Surat Thani but at least you know everything is sorted. Try different agents to get the fastest ferry possible if speed is important to you. There are some private companies that do high-speed boats but this is not consistent so you need to search.
If you do have to worry about how to get to the Koh Samui ferry and get across from Surat Thani, take note of a few things. There will be taxis (probably tuk tuks or songthaew's, the former you'll see in Bangkok and the latter are pickups with benches in the back) at the bus station in Surat Thani which will take you to the ferry. The problem is, there are different ferries to take. Probably you will be taken to a travel agent who will book you on the ferry they send the tourists on, but if you can get a trip to Donsak through the songthaew or from a local travel agent, you will find the fastest ferries to Koh Samui there.
For more on getting there, the Koh Samui airport site has good information on all the ways to get to Koh Samui at http://www.samui.org/airport/
Stage Two -- Staying in Koh Samui
You may want to find a nice Koh Samui bungalow to rest after the trip from Bangkok. I would suggest going to Chaweng Beach as it is the most populous area of Samui and the stunning beach calls out for your camera to take a picture. Chaweng is on the other side of the island from Nathon pier, the getting off point from Samui. There are many places to stay on that beach so I recommend just getting there and finding a place with a reasonable price that you like.
To get around Samui Island you will need to take songthaews or taxis. These drivers love to rip off Thai and foreign tourists alike. Since air conditioned taxis will charge minimum 100 baht to get anywhere, know you should never pay more than 60 baht for a songtaew. Bargain and stand your ground, as always, with a smile.
Stage Three -- Getting to the Full Moon Party in Koh Phangan from Samui
From Samui, getting to Koh Phangan is easy. Simply get a ferry from Nathon pier. There are many travel agents across the road from the pier who will give you a fair price. Alternatively, if you are in Chaweng you can take a short trip to Maenam or Bophut on the north side of the island which have speedboats to Phangan.
Then, you can find your way from there. Have fun at the Full Moon Party on Koh Phangan and remember to be safe.
